Located on one of the three capes of the Region of Murcia, stands the lighthouse with a height of 51 meters, making it the second tallest lighthouse in Spain. Visiting the interior of Cabo de Palos Lighthouse is a unique and unforgettable experience, as it is the only lighthouse in the Region of Murcia that is open to visitors. Located on one of the three capes of the Region of Murcia, atop a small peninsula, stands the lighthouse with a height of 51 meters (81 meters above sea level), making it the second tallest lighthouse in Spain, after the Tower of Hercules in A Coruña.
Our visit will begin with a welcome from our guide on the exterior esplanade of the lighthouse, and after a brief introduction to learn about its history since it started operating in 1865, we will proceed inside. After climbing more than 300 steps, we will reach the upper terrace where we can enjoy a unique panoramic view of our Mediterranean Sea, Cabo de Palos, and La Manga del Mar Menor.
With these spectacular views and the town of Cabo de Palos at our feet, we will have time to take photographs, and with the guidance of our guide, we will learn about the operation of the lighthouse and its peculiarities, such as the functioning of the beacon, which emits a white light with a nominal nighttime range of about 23 nautical miles (43 km).
During our visit, you will also discover other curiosities, such as the history of the sinking of the transatlantic ship “El Sirio” and other important shipwrecks that are part of our underwater heritage, or the importance of the Cabo de Palos and Hormigas Islands Marine Reserve, being a protected underwater natural space and one of the most popular diving destinations in all of Europe.
IMPORTANT: The meeting point to start the tour, where you should be at the date and time you made the reservation, will be at Cabo de Palos Lighthouse.
- The group will consist of a maximum of 10 people aged 12 and above per ascent turn.
- You must be in good physical condition to climb the lighthouse without risk to your health and sign a liability waiver.
